Want to get your children off their gadgets? Introduce them to a
forgotten pastime that’s been around for centuries. Gang Sereh, an alley on Jl.
Astana Anyar Bandung was the kite enthusiast hotspot of the region in the past.
As you walking past the bright hues and old buildings that house six of the
remaining workshops, you’ll get a sensation of travelling a few decades back in
time. Learn a thing or two from kite veteran Lie Fie Kiat (or Akiat for short)
a three-time world champion at international kite festivals. Marked with a
huge kite with a face at the shopfront, Akiat’s shop won’t be hard to find. If
come down to his place in the afternoon, he’ll be delighted to give children
some flying lessons.
